Autumn, done properly
Five boots, one standard. Calf and suede, welted and lined, built for the season that starts at the school gates and ends at Christmas.
One standard across the Boot Room
John White has been putting men in proper shoes since 1919. Every boot here is leather lined, properly soled, and runs in full UK sizes. Pick by the life you lead, not by the picture.

The Byrne Chelsea, in three leathers
No laces, no decisions. Pull-up calf that ages in the right direction, or the same boot in calf suede and full grain. Welt and stitch, lined in natural calf, on a branded Vibram sole. If you buy one boot this autumn, this is the one that earns its keep five days a week.

The Castle Chukka, storm-welted
Two eyelets and a plain calf upper over a storm welt that keeps the weather on the outside. It is the boot for flannel and denim, lined in leather with a cushioned insole, on a studded rubber sole that grips a wet platform.

Suede, for the months that are not quite winter
The Byrne in calf suede, the Swale chukka, the Hill Chelsea: suede reads warmer and less formal than polished calf, which makes it the easier boot with denim and the harder one to get wrong on a Saturday. All lined, all on proper rubber soles.
