Not formal enough for. Black-tie, city boardroom dress codes, or occasions requiring a fully formal Oxford or Derby.

Order one UK size down. The Ethan is built on a generous last. If you normally take a UK 9, order a UK 8 for the best everyday fit.

Snug at first is correct. The full calf leather insole will soften and mould slightly with wear. An initial snugness that resolves within a few wears is expected and correct.

Wide forefoot or high instep? If you have a notably wide foot or high instep, you may find the generous last accommodates you well at your everyday size — try the size down first, but keep free returns in mind.

Before first wear. Apply a suede protector spray evenly across the entire upper. This creates a barrier against moisture and staining. Reapply every few weeks or after cleaning.

After each wear. Brush gently with a suede brush to restore the nap and remove surface dust. Always brush in one direction. For stubborn marks, use a suede eraser with light pressure.

If the suede gets wet. Blot excess moisture with a clean cloth — do not rub. Stuff loosely with newspaper and allow to dry naturally at room temperature, then brush to restore the nap. Never use wax polish, cream, or leather conditioner on suede — these will damage the texture and darken the material permanently.

Storage and rotation. Insert cedar shoe trees after each wear to absorb moisture and maintain shape. Rotate with other pairs to allow the suede to recover fully between wears.
