Choosing between them
Suede reads warmer and less formal, which makes it the easier boot with denim and cords and the harder one to get wrong on a Saturday. Calf takes a polish and goes to the office. If you own one chukka, match it to the trousers you wear most. If you own two, own one of each.
The smart one is the Castle
The Castle and the Oban have two eyelets and the cleanest line a boot can have, which is why they sit so easily under a suit. The Wessex and the Swale have three, a touch higher on the ankle and a touch more relaxed. All of them are cut from calf, on rubber soles that grip a wet pavement.
