Office and business wear. Works well in a relaxed or smart-casual office environment — pair with chinos or cord trousers and a blazer. Not suited to formal business dress codes.

Weekends and casual. Ideal with tailored denim, corduroy, or chinos. The studded rubber sole and storm welt give it the substance for countryside walks or urban weekends alike.

Formal events. Acceptable at informal social occasions where a smart-casual standard is expected — weddings with a relaxed dress code, for example, paired with a mid-weight suit in earth tones.

Not formal enough for. Black-tie, morning dress, or any event requiring a polished leather Oxford or Derby. Suede and a studded rubber sole place this firmly outside formal dress territory.

Order your everyday UK size. The Wessex is true to size. Order the same full UK size you wear in most other footwear.

Snug at first is correct. The calf suede will soften with wear, conforming gradually to the shape of your foot. A snug but not tight fit at first is expected and correct.

Wide forefoot or high instep? If you have a notably wide forefoot or high instep, consider ordering UK 1 size up from your usual size to allow comfortable depth and width.

All sizes are full UK sizes — we do not stock half sizes. If you normally wear a half size in other brands — for example a UK 9.5 — choose UK 10 for the Wessex. The suede will ease to your foot with wear.

Before first wear. Apply a suede protector spray evenly across the entire upper to create a barrier against moisture and staining. Reapply every few weeks or after cleaning.

After each wear. Brush gently with a suede brush in one direction to restore the nap and remove surface dust. For stubborn marks, use a suede eraser with light pressure.

If the suede gets wet. Blot excess moisture with a clean cloth — do not rub. Stuff loosely with newspaper and allow to dry naturally at room temperature, then brush to restore the nap. Never use wax polish, cream, or leather conditioner on suede — these will damage the texture and darken the material permanently.

Storage and rotation. Insert cedar shoe trees after each wear to absorb moisture and maintain shape. Rotate with other footwear to allow the suede to recover fully between wears.
