Office and business wear. The plain, unbroken silhouette and blind eyelets sit neatly beneath a suit or tailored trousers. Brown works well with navy, grey, and tan cloth; Black is the natural choice with charcoal or black suiting.

Weekends and casual. Pairs well with dark chinos or cord trousers and an open-collar shirt. The rubber studded sole makes it a practical choice for town walking and everyday errands.

Formal events. The Black Tanner is appropriate for smart formal occasions — weddings, graduations, interviews. Brown suits less strict dress codes where a polished Derby is still expected.

Not formal enough for. Black tie or white tie events, where a plain Oxford is the conventional choice. The open lacing of a Derby, while smart, does not meet the most exacting formal dress codes.

Order your everyday UK size. The Tanner fits true to size. Order the same UK size you wear in most shoes.

Snug at first is correct. The full leather lining will settle and conform to the foot with wear. A snug fit on first wear is expected and preferable to going larger.

Stay at your everyday UK size if. You have a wider forefoot or higher instep — the open Derby lacing accommodates a broader fit without needing to size up.

All sizes are full UK sizes — we do not stock half sizes. If you normally wear a half size in other brands — for example UK 8.5 — choose the full size above, UK 9, to ensure a comfortable fit.

After each wear. Brush with a horsehair brush to remove surface dust and dirt. This takes 30 seconds and prevents grime building up in the leather grain. Insert cedar shoe trees immediately to absorb moisture, hold the shoe's shape, and slow creasing.

Every 3–4 wears. Wipe down with a slightly damp cloth and allow to dry naturally at room temperature — never with direct heat. Apply a thin layer of leather conditioner to keep the calf leather supple. Follow with a colour-matched wax polish (Brown or Black as appropriate) using small circular motions. Allow to haze for 10 minutes, then buff with a horsehair brush and a soft cloth for shine.

Storage and rotation. Rotate your shoes and allow at least 24 hours between wears. Store on cedar shoe trees in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Consistent care will develop a natural patina that adds character over time.
