"Fantastic quality shoes"
Incredible quality at this price point. The leather is buttery soft and the Blake stitch construction gives me confidence these will last years.

John White was already a master of his trade. Twenty-three years apprenticed in shoemaking, he founded his eponymous business at the age of 35 in the heart of Northamptonshire — the cradle of British footwear. A small workshop. An uncompromising standard. The beginning of a name that would come to define a century.
As the industry slid toward cheaper production and shorter lifespans, John launched the 'Impregnable' line — a public stand for quality made without compromise. A front-page advertisement in the Daily Mail introduced the name to the nation. By the close of the year, 1.25 million pairs had walked off the shelves.
At the height of the Second World War, one in nine pairs worn by the British Forces bore the John White label. John's commitment ran further still — he personally funded a Spitfire, christened 'Impregnable', a steel monument to the values that built his shoes.
After four decades of building the business by hand, John White stepped back. Leadership passed to George McWatters. The industry was beginning to shift — but the principles John had laid down endured: quality leathers, considered construction, value that lasts.
John White Footwear joined George Ward Holdings to form Ward White, navigating decades of upheaval as British shoemaking contracted. Mergers, market shifts, and the steady decline of domestic factories tested the trade. Through it all, the John White name endured — quietly resolute on the standards that built it.
David Corben acquired the John White name and set about reviving it for a modern audience. The mission was clear: honour the heritage, serve the contemporary gentleman. Working with the finest overseas manufacturers, the brand returned to retail — the same care in leather selection, the same attention to last and line, refined for today.

Over a century on, every John White pair is designed in Northamptonshire and crafted by trusted partner makers to the same exacting standards. From premium calf leathers chosen for grain and patina, to the considered finish on every last — the name continues to stand for what it always has: quality, longevity, and timeless British style.
A century of tradition in every pair. The story continues with you.

Premium leathers, considered construction, fair pricing. Quality without the markup that usually comes with it.
Every John White pair begins with a leather chosen for character — full-grain calf selected for its grain, its hand, and the patina it will earn through years of wear. Premium materials are the foundation of everything that follows.
From last to last finish, every detail is considered with the same regard our founder brought to the trade in 1919. The cut, the line, the proportion — quietly British, designed to be worn for a lifetime.

Bought the Stokes boots last winter and they've been worn almost daily. The leather has developed a beautiful patina. Genuinely built to last.
