Rudd Derby Shoes

Office and business wear. The plain Derby silhouette and polished calf leather upper make the Rudd a natural choice for business dress — pairs cleanly with a suit or tailored trousers in either Black or Brown.

Weekends and casual. Brown works particularly well with chinos or dark denim for a smart-casual weekend look. Black steps down equally well from the office to an evening out.

Formal events. Suitable for job interviews, client meetings, and smart social occasions. Black is the stronger choice for more formal events; both colourways sit comfortably at the smarter end of smart-casual.

Not formal enough for. Black tie or white tie dress codes. Those occasions call for an Oxford or a patent-leather pump rather than a Derby.

Snug at first is correct. The plain Derby instep can feel firm initially. The sheepskin insole will settle with wear and the fit will ease naturally over the first few outings.

Wide forefoot or high instep? If you have a noticeably wide forefoot or high instep, consider ordering UK one size up, as the Derby silhouette offers a fitted profile through the midfoot.

All sizes are full UK sizes — we do not stock half sizes. If your everyday size in other brands is a half size — for example UK 8.5 — choose UK 9 for a comfortable fit in the Rudd.

Fit: True to size. JWS stocks full UK sizes only (UK 6–13).

After each wear. Brush with a horsehair brush to remove surface dust and dirt. This takes 30 seconds and prevents grime building up in the leather grain.

Every 3–4 wears. Wipe down with a slightly damp cloth and allow to dry naturally at room temperature — never use direct heat. Apply a thin layer of leather conditioner to keep the calf leather supple, then polish with a colour-matched wax polish (Black or Brown as appropriate — JW Premium Wax Polish is recommended) using small circular motions. Allow to haze for 10 minutes, then buff with a horsehair brush and a soft cloth for shine.

Storage and rotation. Insert cedar shoe trees immediately after wearing to absorb moisture, hold the shoe's shape, and prevent creasing. Rotate your shoes and allow at least 24 hours between wears.
