Office and business wear. Works well with a sharp suit in contexts where a more polished look than a standard calf Derby is called for. The plain patent upper keeps the silhouette clean and formal.

Weekends and casual. Not a natural fit for casual or weekend dress. The high-shine patent finish is a formal signal and reads as overdressed in relaxed settings.

Formal events. The intended ground for the Ivy. Black-tie dinners, evening events, formal weddings, and any occasion where a mirror-finish shoe is conventional or expected.

Not formal enough for. White-tie dress, where a court pump or opera slipper is the established convention. The Ivy is black-tie rather than white-tie territory.

Order your everyday UK size. The Ivy fits true to size for most wearers. Start with your standard UK size.

Snug at first is correct. Patent leather has less give than calf leather. Some initial snugness is normal; the leather lining will ease and shape to the foot over time.

Wide forefoot or high instep? If you have a noticeably wide forefoot, bear in mind the patent upper offers limited stretch. Consider whether a wider-fitting style might suit you better before ordering.

All sizes are full UK sizes — we do not stock half sizes. If you normally wear a half size in other brands — for example a UK 9.5 — choose the full size above (UK 10). The leather lining will accommodate the minor difference as the shoe wears in.

After each wear. Wipe the patent upper with a soft, dry cloth to remove fingerprints and dust. If needed, use a slightly damp cloth and dry immediately — patent leather marks if left wet.

Polish and conditioning. Do not use standard wax polish or leather conditioner on patent leather; these will cloud the gloss. If the shine dulls, apply a small amount of patent leather cleaner or a drop of mineral oil on a soft cloth to restore it.

Storage and rotation. Store in individual cloth bags to prevent scuffing — patent surfaces scratch easily on contact with other shoes or hardware. Insert cedar shoe trees to maintain shape and absorb moisture. Keep away from extreme heat, which can crack patent leather.
